Natural Deodorant Recipe

Natural Deodorant

I was nerding out on a consumer awareness documentary 2 years ago, when I learned about the harmful ingredients in deodorant. I am sure you have heard about it before so I am not going to get into detail, but the bottom line is – it’s not good for you. I decided to make a change.

I had no idea when I embarked on the quest for a natural deodorant that I would be in for such a wild ride.

I searched high and low, read reviews, scoured the internet and tried various deodorant options. From spray deodorant, to stick, to paste to a (shattered) salt block- I tried it all, with no success.

My last and final straw was called “Toms”. I still remember one hot day of summer, putting that stuff on and going to work. In the beginning it smelled like lemongrass and I was digging my earth-mother scent, until about an hour later when I thought, “OMG. Is that me?!” Oh ya baby, that’s you. I am not a naturally smelly person by nature, but this stuff had some sort of odd tinge to it that made me smell like that kid in gym class with a stringy moustache, who apparently had never been introduced to deodorant. No lie. I was thinking of ways to get away from myself. I hid myself in the back corner of the office in shame, reapplying it half under my desk- but nothing helped. By the end of the day I had my arms plastered to my sides, only moving my forearms horizontally to grab things and shifting my chair as close as possible to anything I needed. I was in survival mode- KEEP ARMS BY SIDE! DON’T LET ANYONE NEAR! Oh.. the horror. Enough was enough.

I decided to research some DIY solutions and ended up combining multiple recipes. I am proud to say this stuff actually works and I haven’t had an awkward-arms-by-side moment since. If you are on the lookout for a natural deodorant and want to skip the awkward teen-boy-in-gym-class moments (although it is a character building experience), this is the stuff!

**If you find that it irritates you then add more vitamin E oil **
Take all of these ingredients, mix them until fully combined in a bowl and transfer to a little container like this one.

You can either use your fingers, or a popsicle stick if that icks you out. Put some on in the morning before you put your shirt on, but be careful because it does leave white stuff on you shirt like normal deodorant. I have not ruined any shirts from staining.
